Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa

Begin in the lush rainforest on the western side of Kilimanjaro. The trail is less traveled and offers excellent chances of spotting buffalo, elephants, and colobus monkeys. Camp is set in a beautiful glade among ancient trees.

Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1 Camp

Rapidly gain altitude as you leave the forest and enter the moorland zone. Cross the Shira Ridge with spectacular views of the Shira Plateau — a vast volcanic caldera stretching to the west. The landscape feels otherworldly.

A gentle day of acclimatization across the Shira Plateau. Trek eastward with Kibo's glaciers dominating the horizon. This is one of the most beautiful days on the mountain — vast, open, and deeply peaceful.

Climb to Lava Tower (4,630m) for critical acclimatization, then descend into the Karanga Valley. This "climb high, sleep low" day is key to your summit success. The Barranco Wall looms ahead — tomorrow's challenge.

Scale the dramatic Barranco Wall — a steep, exhilarating scramble requiring some hand-over-hand movement. The views from the top are unmatched. Descend to Karanga Camp for lunch and an afternoon of rest before the push.

A short but steep climb to Barafu Camp — your base for the summit push. Arrive early, eat well, and rest. The atmosphere is tense with anticipation. Your guide will brief you on the midnight ascent. Sleep if you can.

Summit Day — Uhuru Peak

The final push begins at midnight. Trek through scree and ice to Stella Point, then follow the crater rim to Uhuru Peak. Watch the sunrise paint the glaciers gold. Descend to Mweka Camp for celebration and rest.
