Cycling the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro

Ride the Roof
of Africa.

We are locally born cyclists and mountain guides who know every ridge, riverbed, and village trail circling Kilimanjaro — from the coffee farms of Marangu to the Maasai plains of West Kilimanjaro, and beyond, to the Usambara foothills toward Tanga. Every ride is led by a professional local guide, backed by a trained mechanic and a first-aid–certified crew, with a vehicle shadowing every group. We don't rent you a bike — we take you into the villages, farms, and forest trails that make these foothills one of East Africa's most rewarding rides.

Hard / Expert

Kilimanjaro Bike-Assisted Trek

Ride where the ground allows and push or carry the bike through rainforest and moorland up toward the near-summit huts. Part expedition, part bike adventure — the most unusual thing we offer on two wheels.

⚠️To be clear: you ride the rideable sections and push / carry through the forest and moorland. This reaches the near-summit huts, not the summit itself — it is not a ride to the top.
RidersPer person
2–3 riders$2,650
4+ riders$2,450
Day-by-day (draft itinerary)+

Day 1

Moshi → gate (ride)

Ride out to the Kilema / Marangu trailhead.

Day 2

Rainforest (ride & push) → Mandara

Ride the open sections, push through the forest.

Day 3

Moorland (push-bike) → Horombo

Mostly pushing now as the trail steepens.

Day 4

High camp (push / carry) — turn-around

The high point of the trek, near the upper huts — then we turn for home.

Day 5

Descend (push + ride) → Mandara

Gravity helps as the rideable trail returns.

Day 6

Ride out → gate → Moshi

Back on the bike all the way home.

Draft itinerary — final route and turn-around point confirmed with your guide.

Travelling solo?

The four single-day rides are open to solo riders at the listed per-person price — just you, your guide, and the mechanic. The multi-day expeditions need at least two riders for a private departure (the guide, mechanic, shadow vehicle and camp don't halve their cost). Riding alone on a multi-day? We'll either fold you into a scheduled group at no surprise fee, or quote you a private solo rate — just ask.

Good to Know

🚲

Bikes & Fitness

Quality mountain bikes and helmets are provided and fitted on site — bring your own if you prefer. Day rides suit anyone of average fitness; the multi-day expeditions ask for regular riders comfortable with long, hilly days.

☀️

Best Time to Ride

Rides run year-round. The dry seasons — June to October and December to February — give the firmest trails and the clearest mountain views; the green season is lush and quiet.
